Zuhur

  • Zuhur is a Medical Lab Technologist and a mother of two. She took her first belly dance class with Darla in 2002 because she always thought it would be a fun dance to try. Well, she got hooked and has been dancing since.

Zahirah

  • Often breaking into spontaneous dance, Zahirah feels blessed to share her passion with such a wonderful and diverse group of women. Having studied jazz and modern dance growing up in small town Saskatchewan, Zahira found Bellydance in 2002 and fell in love with the rich history and celebration of the female form and power. She enjoys collaborating with other dancers and musicians, as well as sharing the art with her doula clients and a group of seniors who meet for a weekly class. Zahira's love of dance extends to the contemporary realm as well; she's part of a Regina company called FADA Dance, a common attraction at summer music and art festivals. When's she's not dancing, Zahira can be found teaching yoga and working to deadline as a freelance journalist.

Rabi'ah

  • Rabi'ah has her Bachelor of Education with a major in visual art and a minor in dance. She has been studying belly dance since 2002. She received the biggest geek award last year for her love of research and sometimes too enthusiastic attitude. She adores Tribal and has recently taken a liking to Dunyavi Rom. She resides in Regina with her husband, two dogs, 3 ferrets, and one snake.

Nashita

  • Nashita is a 4th year Social Work Student. She began dancing in 2004 when she moved from Prince Albert to Regina. She loves bellydance in all its forms, especially tribal and dunyavi rom (gypsy). She has been called a "Move Hussy" by her tribe because she can never decide on what her favorite move is; it practically changes every week.

Layali

  • Layali started belly dancing with Darla in 2002 and fell in love with the fun, uplifting art form. She brings a calm and grounded energy to the tribe. When she is not dancing she plays the doumbek, tends to her vegetable garden (weather permitting) and works as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.

Jaleid

  • Jaleid is a mother of one son and two dogs, a wife, and a registerd nurse certified in infection control. She has always loved to dance but has really found her inner passion through belly dance. She began dancing in 1999, joined Darla in 2002, and has been with Exalta Tribal Connections since it's inception. She has been labelled "HARD CORE MOMMA" for dancing when pregnant and overdue and being back dancing 6 days after delivering.

Introduction

Welcome to the eXalta 6 Website

We are a Tribal Style Belly Dance group based in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.  As a prairie based dance group we strive to foster strong community amoung our members, believing that the result will be a more professional, playful, skillful, and synchronized tribe.

We are a diverse group of six women who share one thing, the love of dancing, costuming, make-up, performing, and spending time together.

Created in 2005 by Darla of Earth Moves Belly Dance as Exalta Tribal Connections, we have changed and evolved over the years.  In 2008 we reemerged as eXalta 6, with renewed focus on the love of dance and having fun.

History

Exalta Tribal Connections is a Tribal Style Belly Dance group that formed in 2005 under the guidance of Darla.  Darla's introduction to American Tribal Style was in a workshop in 2002.  Since that moment it was her vision to pull together the most skillful and inspired dancers in order to form a creative and progressive tribe willing to press the boundaries of traditional tribal style belly dance. 

Our debut performance was at the 2005 Tribal Epic in Regina, Sask.  In that performance and now, we blend traditional American Tribal Style Belly Dance with newer improvisations and fusions of the style.  At all times we express the joy of dancing together.  We have changed and grown many times over the years.  We have lost a members, we have gained a members.  We have grown into a tight knit group of dancers and friends.

What's in a Name?

What's in a Name?

It is traditional in Middle Eastern Dance for a teacher to name those that come after her.  In this fashion, the members of Exalta Tribal Connections were offered names on the Spring Equinox.  With Spring being a time to start fresh, the new names take Exalta members to the next level of dance, and represent an element of their personalities. 


Layali- nights
Jaleid- snow
Zahirah-shining, luminous
Rabi'ah- garden, springtime
Zuhur- to flower, to blossom, to glow
Nashita- energetic, full of life

  • We dance a diverse repertoire including traditional tribal, sword, candle, Wings of Isis, Dunyavi Rom (Gypsy), and fire. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor venues. Great for bridal showers, stagettes, anniversary or birthday parties, grand openings, and shows. Contact us for negotiable rates.
